MACEDONIA'S INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES PRESENTED BEFORE CZECH BUSINESSMEN

12/02/2010

The Macedonian-Czech business forum was held on Wednesday in Prague, where approximately 80 Czech and Macedonian companies, from the energy, construction, environment, IT, and food industries, attended the forum. Methods to intensify cooperation, realize investment projects, and jointly promote products to third markets were discussed.

"Less Bureaucracy - More Business" being the motto of the Macedonian Government, has led to the  creation of a favorable business climate in the past few years by reducing administrative barriers, strengthening institutional capacities, cutting taxes, and simplifying conditions for starting a business, said Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski addressing a Macedonian-Czech business forum.

Czech Prime Minister, Jan Fischer, reiterated that political ties between Macedonia and the Czech Republic are of key importance to successful economic cooperation, which are at a very high level.

Both PMs estimated that trade exchange was excellent from 2004 onwards, except in 2009 when countries were hit by the global financial crisis. Macedonia-Czech trade exchange has increased four fold in the last five years. However, it is still relatively low and opportunities exist for it to be bolstered.

Milan Hovorka, Czech Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, said Macedonia can count on their strong political and business support. Hovorka added that top Czech officials are prepared to back Macedonia, and share their experiences regarding EU integration.

Prior to the forum, an agreement for economic and industrial cooperation was signed. PMs Gruevski and Fischer stated this would further encourage business relations.
